BALLARD — With a summer full of fireworks, thunder, and the Blue Angels, Ballard neighborhood Facebook group moderators are working overtime sorting through posts from concerned residents asking whether the loud noise they just heard was, in fact, the beginning of society’s collapse.
Loyal Heights resident Wendy Rudolph spends most of her summer with one ear pointed toward the nearest window and the other listening for notification pings.
“There are constantly loud sounds happening around us,” said Rudolph. “Some people hear fireworks. I hear unanswered questions.”
“The weeks surrounding the Fourth of July are what we call ‘The Big Show,'” said the moderator of the popular neighborhood Facebook group OMG WHAT WAS THAT. “While everyone else is outside enjoying BBQs, friends, and sunshine, I’m approving 47 different posts asking whether that was gunshots. It’s never gunshots.”
